FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NORMAN, OK—Senior Adult Services and Scenic Byways, programs within University of Oklahoma Outreach, have partnered to offer Oklahoma seniors the chance to learn about interesting sites within the state. The program, “Scenic Sites for Seniors” is featuring two trips this fall – a Talimena scenic drive and a mock legislative session which includes a tour of the state capitol.

The Talimena scenic drive, scheduled Oct. 23-24, features the 54-mile Talimena National Scenic Byway, which spans one of the highest mountain ranges between the Appalachians and Rockies and includes several historic sites with exhibits. Participants will have lunch at the historic Kerr Country Mansion in Poteau and tour the Robert S. Kerr Museum. The $200 cost per person includes round-trip motor coach transportation from Norman, one night’s lodging at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge in Mena, Ark., and all meals and tour fees.

Seniors can go behind the scenes at the Oklahoma State Capitol with a tour of the Capitol and a mock legislative session sponsored by state Sen. Cal Hobson that will allow them to debate the issue of public transportation and take it to a vote. The trip, which will take place Nov. 9, also includes a tour of the newly built Oklahoma Historical Center. The $40 fee per person includes round-trip motor coach transportation from Norman, both tours and the mock legislative session and lunch at Winnie May’s.
