FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORMAN, OK — Junior high and middle school students now have the chance to experience a day in the life of United Nations delegates during the first annual Junior High/Middle School Model United Nations of the Southwest. The conference, presented by Precollegiate Programs at University of Oklahoma Outreach, will be held Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At the conference, students will have the opportunity to experience the workings of the United Nations and actively gain first-hand knowledge of international politics. Students, acting as delegates, will participate in the Special Political Committee, the Committee on Disarmament and International Security, General Assembly and Security Council. Students are expected to have working knowledge of their assigned country’s political, social, economic and religious views when they arrive at the conference. While there, the delegates will represent their country’s views and opinions rather than their own.
The conference will be held on the OU-Norman campus in the Forum building, 1704 Asp Ave. Cost is $25 per delegate, and the registration deadline is Oct. 20. For more information, contact Amy Logan at 405-325-6897 or alogan@ou.edu, or visit the Web site: http://youth.ou.edu.
