NORMAN, OK – Oklahoma high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to gain hands-on college academic experience this summer through the Bridges to College Math, Science and Engineering summer academies presented by University of Oklahoma Outreach, Precollegiate Programs.
The summer academy will focus on some basic areas of mathematics that relate to college study of physics, engineering and mathematics, including probability, logic, statistics and calculus. During the weeklong academies, students will move from concrete examples to more abstract ones, and they will compare and contrast the use of technology for undergraduate physics, math and science students at OU.
All expenses, including room, board, supplies and books will be provided for each academy student. Students will stay in an OU residence hall and their meals will be served in Couch Cafeteria. Two adult counselors will live on the same residence floor in order to provide maximum assistance and supervision. Travel expenses to and from the academy location and incidental, personal expenditures are the responsibility of the student.
The application deadline is March 30, 2007, and the academy will accept 20 students for each of its two sessions, scheduled July 15–20 and July 22–27. For more information or to register, contact Amy Logan at (405) 325-6897 or visit the Web site: http://youth.ou.edu.
