Middle school youth with disabilities to participate in Annual 2008 Tech-Now and Tech-Success State Competition

Middle school youth with disabilities from across the state as well as Tech-Success students from six schools in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area will gather for a state competition held in the Bethany High School Gymnasium on Saturday, April 12th 1 to 4 p.m.  Staff from Tech-Now and Tech- Success will draw middle school youth with disabilities from across the state as well as Tech-Success students from six schools in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Teachers, parents, family members and others are welcome to attend the competition.  Cash prizes and awards will be given to winners of various competition events. Award winners will be honored at an Annual Awards Ceremony in the Blue Room of the State Capital on Saturday, April 29th from 1 to 4 p.m

Tech-Success is a public partnership between the National Center for Disability Education at the University of Oklahoma Outreach and Tech-Now, Inc. that fosters Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) interests among middle school youth with disabilities. Students are exposed to 140 hours each year in IT-intensive subject areas in science, technology, engineering and math. An after-school program focuses on careers, teamwork and competition to help students understand the skills necessary for the workplace.  

Funding is provided through a three –year grant from the National Science Foundation.
