FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NORMAN, OK – The 49th annual Model United Nation of the Southwest (MUNSW) will be held February 20-23 on the University of Oklahoma campus. Junior high, high school and college students represent countries by familiarizing themselves with the political, social, economic and religious views of their assigned countries.
This year about 250 students will attend from schools all over Oklahoma and Texas, as well as one high school from Louisiana.
Participants will experience the workings of the United Nations and actively gain first-hand knowledge of international politics. At the conference, the students will act as delegates representing their assigned country’s view and opinions. Through participation, delegates will be given an understanding of foreign cultures and an appreciation of our global community.
“I am always proud of the work students put into this conference, they really run the entire event,” said Amy Logan, Precollegiate Programs director. “The students are the ones deciding topics to discuss and debate. They spend a full three days working together to model the United Nations.”
MUNSW is a student organization committed to increasing awareness of the role the United Nations plays in today’s international community. The annual conference stimulates international crisis and the debate of resolutions to demonstrate the United Nations’ effectiveness at addressing global issues.
The conference will take place at the Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education on the OU campus in Norman. MUNSW is sponsored by the University Outreach Precollegiate Programs department and the OU Student Association. For more information, contact Precollegiate Programs at (405) 325-6897.
