Outreach Marketing receives a number of awards from local, regional and national organizations recognizing achievements in marketing, public relations, publications and graphic design

FEATURE STORY: March 11, 2008

The University of Oklahoma Outreach Marketing and Communication Department is recipient of a number of awards from local, regional and national organizations recognizing achievements in marketing, public relations, publications, web design and graphic design.

  • The Southwest District of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) gave a Special Award for Cover Design for Outreach – Reaching Out, the department’s campus-wide magazine. The award was presented during the association’s annual meeting, held this year in Little Rock, Ark., in April.

  • During the 42nd annual Oklahoma City Ad Club Addy Awards gala Feb. 23, the department received eight awards – a trio of Silver Merit Awards and five Bronze Awards. The awards are presented to businesses and organizations that demonstrate the “true spirit of creative excellence” in marketing and advertising.

Silver Merit Awards went to the 2006 University of Oklahoma Outreach Annual Report in the Collateral Material category, the Summer in Santa Fe program brochure in the Brochure/Sales Kit – Advertising for the Arts and Sciences category, and the Outreach Holiday Card in Advertising Industry Self Promotion category.

Bronze Awards were given in the Publication Design category to the organization’s external newsletter, Outreach – Reaching Out and Deep Roots in Oklahoma, a story tracing one Outreach staffer’s family tree back to the Land Run.

Outreach – Reaching Out also captured a Bronze Award in the Sales Promotion Printed Newsletter category. In the same category, Vantage Point, the University of Oklahoma College of Liberal Studies alumni magazine, won a Bronze Award as well. Charting a Course, an alumni feature in Vantage Point, won a Bronze Award in the Publication Design – Spread category.

  • The University Continuing Education Association honored the department with a Gold Award for the Outreach Holiday Card and a Silver Award for the 2007 Black Heritage Celebration poster. These awards are given based on several elements including planning, originality, use of research and needs-assessment.

The association meets March 26-29 in New Orleans, La., where the awards will be presented.

  • On March 1 the Oklahoma Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) recognized the marketing department’s work in two publication categories. The 2006 University of Oklahoma Outreach Annual Report won second place in the Promotional Material/Public Relations category and Outreach – Reaching Out also won second place in the Best Public Relations Magazine category.

The SPJs recognize the best in professional journalism in 48 categories covering print, radio, television, newsletters, photography, Web and research.
